Hey all you TEDDIES,
For those who're too busy to attend - or are just gleeful on-lookers...
They'll be a live video stream TONIGHT starting at 5:15pm (Pacific)/
8:15pm (Eastern) for the 3 winners of the TED prize to reveal
their "One wish to change the world....".
The 2008 prize winners are: Dave Eggers (A Heartbreaking Work
of Staggering Genius), Neil Turok (anisotropies-cosmic radiation
prediction) and Karen Armstrong (former nun-current "free-lance
mono-theist) will make an appearance that should truly inspire,
enlighten and entertain...or at the very least be extremely inter-
esting.
You need to be here: http://www.ted.com/liveevent/watch/
and you'll probably need broadband to view it properly...make
a date of it at the person's house with the best streaming
capabilities.
Some quotes taken from the TED.com site:
Dave Eggers: "When we think about kids and education, we have to get
back to the
basic undeniable that kids are individuals, they learn in a
thousand
ways, and there are undeniable steps to greater education
for all:
better salaries for teachers, smaller class sizes, and more one-
on-one
attention."
Neil Turok: "All of the details of the laws of physics are actually deter-
mined
by the structure of the universe; specifically, by the arrangement
of
tiny, curled-up extra dimensions of space."
Karen Armstong:"I say that religion isn't about believing things. It's ethi-
cal
alchemy. It's about behaving in a way that changes you, that gives you
intimations of holiness and sacredness."
...think Joseph Campbell with a blond bob.
This is a RARE treat as the public usually doesn't get access to TED
content until YEARS after it's happened. So do this thing.
Also check out on TED.com the 'animals that amaze' category.
One of my personal favorite Ted talks is by Gregory Colbert ...which
unfortunately seems to no longer be available on TED - hence
my embedded link no longer works but you can go to his amazing
site....www.ashesandsnow.org
Another is by Wade Davis: Cultures at the far edge of the world.
"He's a passionate advocate for preserving what he's dubbed
the "ethnosphere.""TED
A very smart and very impassioned soul.
