I've been talking to people recently about ideas, where they originate
and then how they are 'seeded' and nurtured. More on that later...
because it must be conceded that while an idea may be the birth
of any movement(or at least in the ways that human beings
record the history of a movement)...

a need precedes it and a commitment follows it-
if it is to take roots, grow and spread.

Two truly inspirational organizations exist of which students
need to be aware: TED.com and The Sapling Foundation

TED.com
TED speakers previously recorded at individual conferences then posted on the
website for viewing, embedding in your own site or blog, or for projecting for
community discussion.

ecolect: Online Sustainable Materials Library

The first free sustainable materials library was publicly launched
at the 'Connecting '07 World Design Congress' (Oct.17-20) in San Francisco.

The RISD grads Matt Grigsby and Joe Gebbia teamed up to create Ecolect.net.
The library/site targets graphic, interior & industrial designers, and architects.

Beyond a directory of sustainable materials Ecolect invites community discussions,
'publishs' and accepts reviews, features projects, case studies and more!
You can even suggest worthy materials!

Ecolect has offices in Providence, RI and San Fran- perfect for those of us
who have a foot on each coast!

Lobby Congress... Save Darfur

You can help pressure Congress to do more to help the people of Darfur by meeting with your congressional representative or members of his or her staff. To learn how your member of Congress voted on important Darfur legislation please visit DarfurScores.org.

If your member has a poor record on Darfur, you should educate him or her on the issues. If he or she is already a leader for Darfur, it is important that you thank them for their previous support and urge them to continue their efforts.

While lobbying a member of Congress may sound intimidating, most of our activists find it to be an easy and enjoyable activity.

Doors open at 1pm, and we encourage you to arrive early, meet up with friends,
and grab a beverage. Badges will be available at registration, along with your
program for the day.

2:00 - 5:00 PM - Presentations and panel discussion

Presentations will begin at 2pm with our moderator introducing the panelists
and theme. Presentations from each of the speakers will follow, culminating in
a panel discussion and Q&A. There will be a break for stretching and refreshment.

5:00 - 6:00 PM - Cocktail reception

At 5pm, we'll wind things up with a cocktail reception, music, and networking.
It's the start of Friday night, so plan to stay a bit late!
